What is it? The Moxie Incubator is a season-long accelerated development program for new, unproduced plays and musicals.​

Who is it for? The 2025 Incubator Cohort will be made up of 3 playwrights, 3 directors, and 3 line producers - in alignment with Moxie's mission, we will select work by artists of historically-excluded genders for this program. 

How does it work? The Moxie Incubator takes a cohort of three writers, three directors, and three producers through a three-step accelerated process of three new plays. Each play receives a one-day virtual table-read in the winter, an in-person developmental reading in the spring, and a culminating workshop production in the early fall. 

Throughout this process, the directors and the producers rotate each round, so that by the end of round three, all of the artists will have worked with all other cohort members outside of their discipline. Imagine a Rubik’s cube of creative collaboration, one we hope builds connections that continue well beyond the nine months of the program.​

What kinds of shows are you looking for? The 2026 Incubator is focused on the development of new plays which center stories of women and can be performed by four actors or less (although we are open to considering both musicals and larger-cast shows). Writers should have questions they are still hoping to explore about the play through development; scripts that are already "locked" are not a good fit for the program. 

Is this paid? Yes - All participating artists are paid a stipend for every round of the Incubator process. ​

Does it cost to submit? No - Moxie is passionate about keeping opportunities accessible for all artists. We do not charge a submission fee for any artist.
