What is The Moxie Incubator?
The Moxie Incubator is a new program from Moxie Arts NY which will support three playwrights, three directors, and three producers through an accelerated development process of three new plays.
Over the course of ten months, the nine artists selected via an open submission process will move through a three-step development process. In Round One (January 2022), each script will receive a one-day virtual table read. In Round Two (April 2022), each script will be produced as in-person staged reading after a weekend workshop. Finally, in Round Three (July 2022), the three shows will be produced under AEA Showcase Code as part of the The Moxie Incubator Festival, a three week celebration of the work of the participating artists.
The series directors and producers will rotate each round so that by the end of the Festival, every artist will have worked with six different core members. Our goal is to create a network of collaborators that extends beyond The Moxie Incubator into future work, and a launchpad for the three scripts to even larger productions in the future.

What kind of plays are you looking for?
Moxie's mission is to tell stories centering women told by artists of historically excluded genders, so we will be prioritizing proposals that best fit this core philosophy.
We will also be prioritizing plays that can be performed by four actors or less.
We are open to considering plays that are intended to be performed fully in-person, in a hybrid model, virtually, or something else entirely!
I'm not local to NYC. Can I still apply?
Yes! We'll provide more details to applicants who reach the interview stage, but regardless of where you live, you should apply!
Is this a paid opportunity?
Yes! All Moxie productions offer stipends. All core participants will receive a stipend of at least $500 over the course of the program (we hope to increase this pending grant support).
I have a different question. Who can I contact?
