INTERVIEW BY K. Hernandez Friend, 2022
MOXIE ARTS NY: Hi Jenny! So excited to catch up with you - it's been a minute since we've seen you on our stage (or screen) but you have been keeping BUSY! What are you up to these days since we last saw you??
JENNIFER BAREILLES: When not working with Moxie Arts, I've been fortunate to be a part of some amazing projects the past five years - some of those projects include the hilarious show The Thanksgiving Play both at Playwrights Horizons in New York and regionally at the Cincinnati Playhouse, writing/acting/producing a short film passion project, shooting an episode of TV, a movie and several branded content pieces! I just wrapped up reprising my role in Hartford Stage's beautiful rendition of It's a Wonderful Life: A Live Radio Show for the 2nd year in a row. I also perform and teach improv classes weekly at the People's Improv Theater.
MANY: Dang - ok, someone has kept busy! You've been in this game for a while now, working in all sorts of different capacities as an actor - as someone who is a NY theatre veteran, what advice would you give to other emerging artists?
JB: If you don't book it, it wasn't your job. Put positive energy out there for the person who did book it and move on to the next thing that calls to you.
MANY: Wise words, for sure. You've worked with us on quite a few projects now, many of them in very different ways, from one-night-only events to fully staged productions to brand new workshops to our first toe-dip into filmed theatre - do you mind sharing, what is one particular thing that you took away from your experience with Moxie?
JB: That an atmosphere of conversation, patience, "play" and integrity is available at all levels of theater.
MANY: Absolutely - that's a great take-away. Thank you so much for your time and for your incredible talents, it continues to be such a pleasure working with you! If our readers want to keep up with what you are doing these days, how can they find more information about you?
